When applying for the children’s grant, whether it is the Child Support Grant or Foster Child Grant you must provide documents needed for SASSA child grants to be submitted successfully.

Documents for SASSA Child Support Grant

To apply for the SASSA Child Support Grant (CSG), you will need the following documents as requirements for the Child Support Grant Application Form.

  1. Your 13-digit bar-coded ID and the child’s birth certificate.
    • If you don’t have an ID or the child’s birth certificate, complete an affidavit in the official SASSA format, signed by a Commissioner of Oaths (not a SASSA official).
  2. A sworn statement from a reputable person who knows the applicant and child (For example, councillor, traditional leader, social worker, minister of religion).
  3. Proof that you’ve applied for an ID and/or birth certificate at the Department of Home Affairs.
  4. Temporary ID from the Department of Home Affairs (if applicable).
  5. Baptismal certificate (if available).
  6. Health clinic card (if available).
  7. School report (if available).
  8. Proof of any maintenance received for the child.
  9. Proof of your earnings.
  10. Marriage certificate (if applicable).
  11. Court order for custody (if divorced).
  12. Death certificate of deceased parent or proof of a missing parent (e.g., a missing person’s report from the police).

Child Support Grant Application Process

  1. Complete the Child Support Grant application form in the presence of an SASSA official.
    • Only you or an SASSA official can complete this form).
  2. After submitting your application, you will receive a receipt as proof of your application.
  3. Wait for the approval of your child support grant (CSG), which will take up to 90 days.
    • In most cases, you will receive approval within 30 days of submitting your application.
  4. To check the status of your Child Support Grant approval, you can visit the website srd.gov.za.

SASSA Child Support Grant allows each primary caregiver to apply for up to 6 children, even if they are not biological children, the caregiver must be a legal relative of recipient children.

To apply for the SASSA Child Support Grant (FCG), you will need the following documents.

    • Most of the time (FSG) grant applications get approved within 30 days of submission.

SASSA Foster Child Grant allows guardians to apply for up to 6 children, even if they are not the caregiver’s legal or biological children and are considered eligible with a court order.
