You have the right to appeal SASSA for reconsideration to get your grant reinstated for monthly payments. The online appeal process is straightforward and enables Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370, Disability Care, Old Age, and Children’s grants applicants to challenge SASSA decision through the Department of Social Development.

To lodge an appeal for the SASSA grant, you will need your ID and phone number handy to complete the process quickly. You’ll also need to provide the reason for your appeal application, as this information will be required to challenge the SASSA decision.

  1. Visit the Department of Social Development website at srd.dsd.gov.za.
  2. Click on the service Lodge an Appeal or Check an Appeal Status.
  3. Type in your South African ID and the cellphone number used to submit your application for the SASSA grant.
  4. Click the Send PIN and wait for the SMS to be received with the verification OTP code.
  5. Insert the PIN code you have received on your phone and click the Submit button to get verified.
  6. Select the month you’re appealing for a declined grant or rejected application in the calendar section.
  7. Select one of the reasons for your appeal application listed in the drop-down menu.
  8. Click on the Submit button to send your appeal to process and revised by the ITSAA.

Your SASSA appeal will be sent to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) at the DSD, which is responsible for addressing appeal concerns.

  • Important Note: Remember, the SASSA system requires you to have the cellphone you used for the initial application with you to complete the appeal. If you have recently changed or lost your cellphone for any reason, it’s crucial to log into your SASSA account at srd.sassa.gov.za to update your details. This ensures that you are the rightful person making the appeal. Without the verification PIN, you won’t be able to proceed with the process.

Find SASSA Application Declined Reason

To find out why your SRD R370 application was declined, follow these steps.

  1. Visit the SRD Status Check on the SRD website.
  2. Enter your ID and cell phone number to access your application status.
  3. The SASSA system will display the reason for the declined application on the screen.
  4. Take note of the complete details provided regarding the reason for the declined application.
  5. Use this information to fill in the appeal application where it required to provoide the reason for declined grant.

How Much Time SASSA Appeal Process Takes

You will receive confirmation from SASSA once your appeal application has been successfully submitted. The Independent Tribunal will then process the appeal and endeavour to finalize it within 60 to 90 days from the date it was received. They will inform the appellant about the status of the appeal through email and SMS sent to the registered phone number. You will start receiving SASSA payments for the declined month when your appeal application stand approved.

If SASSA cannot verify your unemployment status, your application may remain declined even after submitting an appeal, resulting in non-approval.
