SASSA Appeal Online
If your SASSA grant application has been declined, and you disagree with the decision, you can appeal to SASSA through the Department of Social Development Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) to reinstate your grant for reconsideration.
SASSA declined your grant applications for various reasons across all grant types. The most frequently declined grant is the SRD R350, with common reasons being the discovery of additional income sources or NSFAS associations. Likewise, applicants of other SASSA grants, such as Disability, Old Age, Foster, and Child Support, can encounter the same reasons for declined applications.
However, there’s no need to worry, as these issues can often be resolved through the online Sassa appeal process, which typically takes just a few minutes and requires your phone number and ID card. In certain cases, SASSA may request additional documents, such as proof of income or medical tests, but you will be promptly notified of the specific reason, allowing you to take the necessary steps to address it.
Appeal SASSA Online
You can appeal SASSA for each declined month according to the Department of Social Development (DSD) judiciary Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), following these steps.
- Visit the DSD ITSAA website at srd.dsd.gov.za https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal
- Click on the message that says “click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status” to access the appeals portal.
- Type in your ID and the cellphone number used for the grant application.
- Press “send pin” and wait for the SMS with the verification pin. Enter the pin and press “Submit” to confirm your identity. Ensure you have the cellphone you used for the application with you.
- If you’ve changed or lost your cellphone, update your details on the “srd.sassa.gov.za” website (Available from July 1st).
- Enter the received “verification pin” and press “submit.”
- Choose the month you’re appealing for. If you applied for one month only, it will already be selected. The system will display the reason for your application’s decline.
- From the dropdown list, select the reason for your appeal application. Then press “submit,” and you’re done.
Important note: Now you can check your cell phone for SASSA appeal SMS regarding your declined grant application, which confirms your appeal has been successfully sent to the DSD ITSAA to process for Sassa appeal approval in the next 90 days.
How Much Time SASSA Takes to Approve Your Appeal
You will receive confirmation from SASSA once your appeal application has been successfully submitted. The Independent Tribunal will then process the appeal and endeavor to finalize it within 60 to 90 days from the date it was received. They will inform the appellant about the status of the appeal through email and SMS sent to the registered phone number. You will start receiving SASSA payments for the declined month when your appeal application stand approved.

- Visit the SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/
- Log in to your SASSA account.
- Select the option ‘Status Check.’
- Enter your South African ID number and your Application Reference Number.
- Click on the ‘Submit’ button to see your Sassa Appeal Status for R350.

How much time SASSA Appeal Process Takes
SASSA Appeal Process takes a 90-day waiting period for the declined grant. You will receive an SMS on your linked Phone Number when any decision is made on your Appeal. In the meantime you can continuously monitor your SASSA status every month and get instant updates, so that you can receive payments for the declined month when your grant will stand Approved and Reinstated.
Important Consideration
Mrs. Lindiwe Zulu stated that if your SASSA application is declined, you can submit a SASSA Appeal within 30 days of receiving your decline or cancellation notification to have your case reconsidered, but make sure not to delay your appeal beyond 90 days from the date of your initial decline status notification.
- Submit your reconsideration request within 30 days of receiving the declined application notification.
- If declined for multiple months, submit separate reconsideration requests for each month.
- If SASSA cannot verify your unemployment status, your application may remain declined even after submitting an appeal, resulting in non-approval.

- Visit the SASSA Appeal Status Check page.
- Enter your South African ID number and phone number.
- Click on the ‘Check Status’ button to view your appeal status for the declined grant.
If you have changed your number, you have to go through www.srd.sassa.gov.za and log in to your SASSA account to check your appeal status.

I applied for 350 grant in April 2024 , it declined indicating that I`m UIF registered of which I was no longer receiving any government payment what so ever .
I appealed 3 months ago but I haven’t received any feedback with regard to my appeal . I also engaged in numerous chats with sassa departments through phone calls and email , however , all my attempts were fruitless up to now

i’m so hurts i didn’t receive July payment due to reason i used my bank account to get help from my cousin with few groceries .she sent money through this account now my sasa 350 declined say i have means of income…i have received help once elsewhere now i have to suffer going through appeals.it gonna take up to 90 days for results and even the appeal box reasons why you appeal are explaining enough to make sense or weight of your appeal.
these 3 months i have to wait not sure ill be paid for if appeal for july aproves…i don’t know how im going to get through this mouth with less im left with …..please make changes of how you appeal…bank account shoul be helping you anytime of these situations and i must be able to appeal with valid reasons for source of income and not just declined me.

Hi for the past months I have not been approve to receive any payments. I did appeal every month but to date without any success. Morning I was trying to update my banking details decline don’t know what the reason is.

Please check your October 2023 Grant status here https://srdstatus.co.za/ if it says rejected then you need to contact your nearest SASSA office or call helpline. Also you need to appeal for each rejected month.
