SASSA Care Dependency Grant (CDG) provides support for parents, foster parents, or custodians who care for children under 18 with permanent or severe disabilities, such as children who have had mental or physical disabilities for more than 6 months and require ongoing care.

Your monthly payments will start from the month you applied for the Care Dependency Grant. SASSA Care Dependency Grant Status Check

Care Dependency Grant recipients and their caregivers who have submitted Sassa applications for monthly grants can check their SASSA Grant status by following these steps.

  1. To check SASSA Status go to https://srdstatus.co.za/
  2. Enter your South African ID number as a legal guardian, foster parent, custodian, or parent of a disabled child.
  3. Provide the cell phone number linked to your SASSA Care Dependency Grant application.
  4. Click the ‘Submit’ button to send your request to the official database.
  5. Your Care Dependency Grant Status will be displayed and include your application ID.

After confirming your Approved SASSA status, you can proceed and check the latest SASSA payment dates for your Care Dependency Grant to collect your monthly payments on designated paydays.

Care Dependency Payment Not Received

If you haven’t received your care dependency grant payment for this month, call Postbank customer service at 0800535455 to check for possible delay and consult for not being paid for the following month or the previous month, whether it’s a system problem or another issue, by check the reasons for SASSA Payment not received.

The Care Dependency Grant is designed for young individuals who rely on a caregiver due to temporary or permanent disability. On the other hand, the Disability Grant is designed for those over 18 years old who require temporary or permanent care and have needed more than 12 months of caregiver support.

If you believe that you have applied only for the SASSA Care Dependency Grant for a dependent person under 18 years of age, and you meet the eligibility criteria for qualification but have not received the payment. You can contact the Sassa helpline at 0800601011 before making any decisions about appealing. Notice: If you have applied for both the Disability and Care Dependency grants, SASSA will not approve your grant and decline your application as a violation of the rules.

SASSA Care Dependency Application Pending

If your Care Dependency Status shows “Pending,” it indicates that your application lacks the required documents, and you will need to update SASSA application by providing all necessary proofs, including bank details, and medical information.

The pending status for SASSA’s Care Dependency typically lasts for up to 14 days (two weeks) from the application date and upon updating the application information, it will change to approved and you’ll begin receiving your monthly payments. If you receive a pending SASSA reapplication, please proceed to get your grant reinstated.

Care Dependency Grant Status Declined

If you have found out that your Dependency grant has been canceled, or the SASSA grant application is declined you can submit your appeal to the Department of Social Development for each month your grant application was denied.

You should consider appealing your declined grant if you believe the SASSA decision was incorrect because you have been qualified for a Care Dependency grant. This is how you can appeal for the SASSA Care Dependency Grant.

  1. Go to the SASSA appeal website at srd.dsd.gov.za.
  2. Provide your ID number and the cellphone number registered with your application.
  3. You can also enter the 13-digit, bar-coded identity document (ID) for verification and if not available, you can attest to the affidavit form for identity proof.
  4. Insert the PIN code you will receive on your cellphone number linked with your application.
  5. Select the month for which you want to appeal SASSA for the declined grant.
  6. Provide the reason for appealing to SASSA’s decline decision.
  7. Click the “Submit” button to send your appeal. and wait for the approval message.

Important Notice: If you don’t have an ID, you must provide an affidavit with your disability grant application, parents or guardians make sure the monthly income does not exceed R223 200 if you are single or R446 400 if married.

Yes, every applicant must undergo a medical examination, conducted by a doctor appointed by the state, to assess the extent of their disability. It is essential to bring any previous medical records and reports when applying and during the assessment. Your doctor will prepare a medical report and forward it to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). The report remains valid for three months from the date of assessment.
