SASSA Application Approval Time

It typically takes up to 3 months (90 days) for SASSA to process grant applications, especially during periods of high application volumes. Once your application is processed and approved, you’ll receive an SMS with the approved month’s payment dates. This will indicate when you’ll receive your grant money through your preferred payment method selected in your application form.

SASSA Application Rejected or Declined

If your application to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was not successful, it’s important to understand why. Receiving an SMS or email indicating your application was rejected means there was likely an error in your application details. This could include incomplete information, incorrect details, or unanswered screening questions.

To address a rejected application, you have the opportunity to update SASSA application details before appealing to the Department of Social Development, which handles appeals. Correcting any errors or providing missing information, such as contact details or bank information, can improve your chances of approval.

In another case, if you find your application correct, but still get a declined message on the phone or receive updates through SRD R370 Status Check. This typically indicates that while your application was accurate, you may not meet the eligibility criteria for the SASSA grant. Factors such as having a bank balance exceeding the Means Test threshold or being employed can lead to a declined status.

Regardless of the reason for rejection or decline, you have the option to appeal the SASSA decision. You can do this by submitting an appeal to SASSA within 90 days of your initial application, accompanied by a written explanation of your circumstances. This could include being unemployed, experiencing financial hardship, caring for children under 18, or being an elderly person over 75 years old in poor health and unable to work.
